Magpul just announced their new PMAG magazines for all the various AK pattern rifles chambered in 7.62×39 earlier this summer.  Well…they actually didn’t ship till Shot Show 2014.

Initial Impressions, it has the GEN3 markings, ribs on the front and back, standard Magpul markings and the floor plate is flared similar to their AR mags.  Construction is very similar to regular PMAGS.  It’s very similar in size to a standard AK surplus magazine and should fit pouches just fine.

Pros:

  1. Durable, Magpul quality
  2. Gen M3 PMAG Markings
  3. 922r points
  4. Flared Floor-plate

Cons:

  1. No steel reinforcements.  They’re coming…I predict within the next year or TWO
  2. I was not able to fit 30 rds into all the mags, some only took 25-27 rds and stopped feeding

The 30-round polymer magazines are made in the USA and feature a removable floorplate, constant curve geometry, and a reliable/low-friction follower. They’ll retail at $13.95, so comparable to the price of a Tapco or Promag.

More to follow in the coming weeks…
